Autobiography
In 2009, Fay’s father died and this watershed moment unleashed a torrent of grief for him as well as for her mother who had died suddenly on holiday in Spain in 1964 when Fay was seven. A silence had grown up around her mother over the years, and Fay was determined to re-instate her, using drawing to lead the way.
From 2009 to 2019, Fay drew autobiographical work to reassess her childhood, to remember her parents and to enable her to re-engage with her lost mother. This work was underpinned by an interest in psychoanalysis.
These drawings have been shown widely including Freud Museum, University of Cambridge, Peltz Gallery Birkbeck University of London, Charing Cross Hospital, & Model Gallery Leeds, Eleven Spitalfields Gallery and Confer Karnak Arts Space. They have featured in several books on contemporary art.
