Description

Published for the exhibition In Circles at Handel Street Projects 2021.

An edition of 300 illustrated in colour, 64 pages long, section (thread) sown so that the pages can open flat, and has a dust jacket

Designed by William Hall, with an essay by Dr Gilda Williams, this publication is fully illustrated in colour, 64 pages long, section (thread) sown so that the pages can open flat, and has a dust jacket.

William and Danny Kirk, the printer, wanted a paper which communicated the grainy watercolour paper Fay uses for her drawings and they chose GF Smith ‘Zen’ Pure White. This is FSC certified and made from 100% virgin ECF fibre, meaning it comes from a responsibly managed timber source and avoids excessive use of chlorine in its processing (chlorine is used to make paper bright white). It is an uncoated paper with a little texture.

William chose the typeface Plantin which has a 1913 Monotype font based on a 16th cut by Robert Granjon. Plantin retains a composure and timelessness, sympathetic to the delicate circle drawings.
