Circles

Fay has been drawing circles since 2019 inspired by a study trip to Iran where she visited archaeological sites and Islamic mosques with their domes of heaven.

Over 50 drawings of concentric circles in graphite and watercolour have been made and a selection shown in a solo exhibition ‘In Circles’ at Handel Street Projects London in 2021, and in a group drawings show ‘Lines of Empathy’ at Patrick Heide Contemporary London in 2022 and at Close Ltd Somerset in 2023.

In 2023, a second series of concentric circles in graphite was completed that explored variations whilst following the same set of rules. ‘Essential Structures’ exhibition at Gerald Moore Gallery London includes this work. A third series followed with wider bands of concentric circles that allowed pencil marks to show clearly.

A fourth series of circles has been made in 2024 using coloured wax on handmade papers. Inspiration comes from Neolithic sites particularly Newgrange and Knowth in Ireland, two burial mounds around 5000 years old.
